Windows file sharing and naming guidelines

Mac OS and Windows computers store and maintain files differently. For the best cross-platform experience, follow these guidelines:
Create separate shared folders for Windows and Mac OS users and set access privileges so users can access only the appropriate folder for their type of computer.
Use comparable versions of application software on both platforms.
Modify files only with the application they were created in.
    Limit filenames to 31 characters.
Don't use symbols or characters with accents in the names shared items.
When you set up Windows file sharing, use the AppleShare IP server's unqualified DNS name. It makes it easier for some clients to connect to the file server.
